Suez Security and Supply-Chain update

The security situation in the Suez continues to effect global shipping despite the best efforts of the US, UK and other nations in the global security coalition.

Many of the container ships continue to re-route around the Cape to avoid the area and this is having a short-term effect of shipping times but is likely to lead to some medium-term issues of container availability and shipping capacity. As ships will be on average talking an extra 30 days to complete the round trip there will be less capacity available and the risk of container shortages.

As stated in our January update we do not see any effect on our ability to supply and we have increased our stock levels to mitigate any delays. We are also in the unique position for a decorative glass supplier to have UK extensive manufacturing capability. Since the post-pandemic shipping crisis have on-shored more and more manufacturing to reduce our reliance on our Asian supply-chain.

Although the current Suez security situation has not affected our ability to supply it does continue to put increased upward pressure on our shipping costs. The cost for a container from Asia to the UK has now rise to $5455.

These increases have now moved costs to a level where our freight surcharge will be applied to invoices from 1st March. These are based on the weight of the glass units or components and are explained in detail via the link below.
